Freddy’s Love: The Gorilla Matriarch Who Brought the World Together for Jameela
Welcome to Greg’s Gorilla & Wildlife Chronicles!
If you’ve ever wondered what baby gorillas do all day, how a silverback keeps the peace, or why Jameela is always putting random stuff in her mouth—you’re in the right place.
This blog is where I share behind-the-scenes thoughts, video highlights, and deeper stories from my weekly visits to the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, home to a very special group of Western Lowland Gorillas.
The troop includes:
Mokolo – the 400 lb silverback and calm leader
Freddy – the oldest and wisest female, and the heart of the troop
Kebi – the climbing queen and a very hands-on mom
Nneka – still finding her role in the troop
Tusa – the independent spirit
Kayembe – Cleveland’s first gorilla birth, and the troop’s big brother
Kunda – the playful baby girl who’s just starting to explore
Jameela – our newest arrival and little hurricane in the making
I film these gorillas every week, watching how they interact, grow, and sometimes completely surprise us. From heartwarming care to hilarious chaos, their stories are real—and worth telling.
